Emergency Lighting Systems are an essential part of today's workplace as they can tell when power has failed and immediately use their backup battery to light up the area.

Gra-Bern Electrical Contractors in Telford provide a wide range of electrical services to domestic, commercial and industrial customers including emergency lighting and offer the following advice on how to carry out tests on your emergency lighting system on a regular basis:

  1.  Locate all the emergency lights to test the key switches.  Emergency lights should have a green or red light glowing to show a steady mains power is present.
  2. Write the locations of emergency lighting on a plan for later.
  3. Identify the test key, there are many different types depending on the emergency lighting you have.
  4. Insert the test key into the Keyswitch.  Keep the pressure on to hold the key IN and flick down to stimulate a mains failure.
  5. Using your plan go back to each emergency light.  If the test has worked, the LED previously lit will be now out i.e. there will be no mains power present.
  6. If there are any defects, you will need to carry out repairs as soon as possible.  Talk to Gra-Bern Electrical Contractors for more information.
  7. Finally, ensure you keep an emergency lighting log book stating the dates of every inspection and test.
