Autumn is a colourful season offering stunning leaves, misty mornings and dazzling sunshine yet it can also offer many hazards.

Priorslee Motor Services in Telford offer some good advice when driving during this colourful season:

Watch out for Deer – did you know that between 40,000 and 75,000 deer are killed on the roads every year and such accidents can injure and kill drivers also.  If you are driving at night and using full beam headlights, dip them when you see a deer, if you don’t it may just freeze in your path. It is much safer to slow down and continue driving on your normal track than to swerve or break hard as this may mean you lose control of your car and have an accident.

Good Visibility – whilst a dazzling sunshine is beautiful, it creates poor visibility for drivers.  It is essential that you keep your windscreen clean and free from scratches, chips etc. Renew worn windscreen wiper blades to ensure your windscreen is always cleaned properly.

Check your battery – battery failure is a common cause of breakdown, replace your battery now if it appears to be struggling.

Tyres - The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm although the AA recommends you should have at least 3mm of tread for winter driving - bald and defective tyres are dangerous so get them checked.
