What a surprise finding these great gardens tucked away in the countryside so close to a large town and in easy distance of a motorway.
Despite the near drought conditions of this summer, the splendor of the gardens still shows through.
Was disappointed 😞 as realized there was a large section we missed by the house and orangrie as access was not allowed due to a wedding being held there. I can see what a great venue it is. But think a small reduction in entry fee could have been given, or at least a voucher for a cup of tea!
I would like to visit again but I am not sure I will as it's a bit expensive for what you get, the trail up through the woods could have been better marked and a bit more detail about the buildings dotted around there would be good.
Due to the lack of water the splendor of the waterfalls & ponds in the woods and water cources through the formal gardens had to rely on one's imagination.
All said it was still a nice place to visit if you like gardens even if you only ever go there once.

Not much for kids. Only a very small play area. Would have liked to have seen more stuff for kids over the 50 acres!

Although there's acres of space I didn't think there was much for children (a tiny play park near the entrance). There's so much scope to add a few climbing areas in the woods etc. Real shame. Also hard work with buggies. An awful lot of steps to negotiate. I didn't find it value for money at all.

Only a short visit to the play area and cafe but very impressed by the quality of food on offer. However some members of the group found the food too fancy and would have preferred some simpler options

Hestercombe continues to develop, new planting, new features in the gardens, great summer entertainment, fabulous cakes in the cafe. A true place for everyone, singles looking for bucolic solitude, couples wanting space to be together, families wanting to explore and learn.

Mu husband and I visited Hestercombe on a sunny afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. There were plenty of different paths through the gardens and we managed to find nearly all the sights that were mentioned on the map - maybe could have done with a few pointer signs? We didnt get time to visit the house but had a good time overall.

Our first visit after many trips to Somerset. Relaxing country estate and gardens. Very neat formal gardens and generally very well maintained. Good footpaths but some are difficult for wheelchairs. Well worth a visit although the cafe menu is a bit pricey and limited if you are a vegetarian.

Lovely old Manor house in Somerset, well worth a visit. Nice walk around the gardens and then a very good Cream Tea to finish.

We enjoyed a family day out here with my grandmother who is partially disabled and therefore we needed a wheelchair.
Friendly staff at reception, reasonable prices.
Although I had a tough time wheeling the wheelchair about - we had a very pleasurable visit. Would return.

We’ve been meaning to visit here for some time and a long drive back from Devon on a busy Sunday afternoon provided just the opportunity to turn off the M5 with all it’s traffic delays and just relax. The extensive gardens and parkland were a delight and very reminiscent of Stourhead, its 18th century contemporary. Not surprising really when you learn that the two owners were good friends. There is so much to see especially if you take the time to walk to the furthest points. Work is going on all the time to restore and recreate areas and small follies that have been lost over the years. The gardens alongside the house which were the creation of Jekyll and Lutyens are especially impressive. The restaurant is well worth visiting and has some very interesting food to suit all tastes which is better than you will find at many National Trust locations. Everyone of the staff we met were charming and helpful. The house itself has suffered from being used as a fire service HQ and training centre in recent years but there are plans to return it to its former glory. Overall this place is well worth a visit.

Historical gardens with two contrasting areas - the formal gardens designed by Gertrude Jekyll and the Georgian landscape garden. Delightful and well maintained. Art gallery in the house and a lovely cafe. Well worth a visit!

This coffee shop is very good for wheelchair users, there's plenty of space, and the staff are extremely helpful. It's a shame the whole garden isn't accessible, but the coffee shop makes up for this. 100% recommend to anyone visiting Taunton, and their cream teas are a MUST.
