The initiative – which runs from today until 29 March - encourages communities to love where they live by pledging to pick a bag or more of litter from their local open spaces and neighbourhoods.

The Town Council is encouraging residents, community groups and schools to take part.

Cllr Cindy Yip the Town Mayor, said: “The Great British Spring Clean is a brilliant opportunity to engage in your local area and help keep Royal Sutton Coldfield clean, tidy and welcoming.

“We are urging the community to show their love for where they live by getting involved.

“Whether that’s teaming up with a local group, or heading out for your own quick clean up, every single bag collected will help protect and preserve our streets, parks and beautiful green spaces.

“I would also like to thank the amazing community groups that work hard to keep the Town well-maintained and litter free.”

To date the Town Council has provided over 1,700 pieces of litter picking equipment to Sutton Coldfield Litter Action Group for residents to get involved and adopt a street.

The Town Council can put locals in touch with the group or support community litter picks directly by offering loans of litter picking equipment such as litter pickers, tabards and bin bags/bag hoops.

All equipment is available on a first come first serve basis. Please email enquiries@suttoncoldfieldtowncouncil.gov.uk
