Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council has strengthened its commitment to improve open spaces and the environment in the Town by agreeing to a new and enhanced grounds maintenance and ranger contract from February 2026.

Following a successful tender process, the five-year contract has been awarded to Idverde and will be managed by officers of the Town Council.

The contract will cover 217 regular ranger tasks, which is almost 50% more than currently undertaken. It will also include improved maintenance to gateways into the Town and local centres, maintenance of overgrown areas, as well as continuing to remove graffiti, flyposting, litter, and leaves across Royal Sutton Coldfield.

The grounds maintenance of the proposed 13 Devo Deal sites has been included, ready to make improvements to meet local needs post transfer. Together with a full floral enhancement service including winter/spring/summer bedding and wildflowers, as well as over 500 hanging baskets, planters’ troughs and flowertowers around the Town each summer.

The contract will also include improving biodiversity, support for voluntary groups and the use of electric vehicles and tools, to reduce the impact of the contract on the environment.

Cllr Simon Ward leader of the Town Council said “I’m delighted that the Town Council is able to renew this crucial agreement.  The Town Rangers have established a key role in keeping our Royal Town cleaner and greener. As the Town Council increases its services through areas such it’s allotments and the devolution of sites from Birmingham City Council the Rangers will play an ever increasing role.”
