28th April 2022: Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID is inviting businesses across Sutton Coldfield Town Centre to ‘bring out the bunting’ and decorate their shop fronts or office interiors to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on June 2nd-5th 2022, when Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years of service.

The winning shop front or interior work space will be awarded a celebratory plaque, £100 in town centre vouchers plus a feature in the Sutton Chronicle newspaper and a town centre billboard advertising the winning decor and all about the business.

Entrants should send a photo of their decorations to info@suttoncoldfieldtowncentre.co.uk before June 1st with the name and address of their business.

Keith Ward, Town Councillor and SCTC BID Board Member commented:

“We can’t wait to see the town centre businesses get involved in our ‘bring out the bunting’ competition and are urging all sorts of businesses to get involved from shops and restaurants through to office space and exercise studios.

“It’s time to begin investing in Sutton Coldfield town centre, not only by working in collaboration with Sutton Coldfield Town Council and Birmingham City Council in delivering the proposed Masterplan but also with community initiatives such as this.  We are asking Sutton residents and businesses to invest their belief, confidence and custom back into our Royal town. Everyone can make a change in how the town is represented to visitors as well as potential business investors.”

As a result of the ‘Yes’ vote, the new Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID has this year commenced its third term, with a focus on ‘investing in Sutton’ and working to deliver the Masterplan with Birmingham City Council and Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council.

Businesses across Sutton Coldfield Town Centre voted in favour of renewing their status as a Business Improvement District (BID).  Businesses with a rateable value of £7,500 or above will pay a levy based upon their rateable value, creating a collective fund of more than £1.3 million to spend over the next five years.

This positive result during November last year, followed several months of planning, in-depth interviews, surveys and a month-long ballot in which hundreds of businesses in the area were asked to vote on the proposals.  The successful campaign was spearheaded and driven by the BID’s Board of business representatives from across the town, supported by pfbb UK, who develop and deliver Business Improvement Districts across the country.

The Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID vision is to work with others to define, develop and promote the identity of Sutton Coldfield which reflects its strengths, attributes and heritage, whilst ensuring that the town remains vibrant and safe for all who visit, work or shop in the town.  The town’s businesses, stakeholders and local residents are already proud of their town and the BID intend to build on this pride working with Birmingham City Council and Sutton Town Council and other organisations to promote what the town has to offer.

The new BID’s Business Plan:

  • Objective 1 is to create a vibrant town centre with a unique sense of identity and promote its business, cultural and leisure offer locally and regionally.

  • Objective 2 is to enable visitors and people working in the town centre to have a positive experience and feel safe, secure and comfortable.

  • Objective 3 is to encourage growth, development and investment of businesses which complement and build on the strengths of Sutton Coldfield.
