Sutton Coldfield will step into Christmas in style this weekend when its annual Christmas lights switch on brings a day of festive fun to the Royal Town.

The much-loved community event will see Brummie Free Radio presenters host the celebration on Saturday 16 November, culminating with the big switch on of the town’s dazzling display at 5pm.

Talented local singers, bands and choirs will provide a seasonal soundtrack to help get guests in the Christmas spirit, with live performances throughout the day.

For the little ones, children’s favourite character, Hey Duggee will be making special appearances throughout the afternoon, and there will be free festive face painting opposite House of Fraser in Bishop’s Court.

The Gracechurch Express will also return to the centre, taking passengers on a magical ride through the festivities.

Funded by Sutton Coldfield Town Centre Business Improvement District, this year’s Christmas lights display will see the town centre transformed into a winter wonderland as part of its ongoing investment to improve the BID area.

Mike Bushell, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID Manager, said: “We’re incredibly excited to kick off the Christmas period this Saturday at our annual lights switch on. It always proves to be an unmissable day for the whole family, with lots of festive fun, seasonal treats and live entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

“Christmas is a particularly busy time of year in the town centre, whether visitors are joining us for shopping or celebrating, and we’re dedicated to creating a festive ambience to help make their visit even more magical,” he added.

As well as the Christmas lights switch on, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre will also host an exciting calendar of seasonal celebrations throughout December, including Skett’s Christmas Food and Craft Fayre, festive gin tasting and mulled wine at Simpson’s Gin Bar, and Birmingham Philaharmonic Orchestra at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.
