An actor who became an ambassador for Sutton Coldfield-headquartered charity the UK Sepsis Trust (UKST) has shared his story in a new ITV documentary.
Jason Watkins’ new documentary ‘Jason & Clara: In Memory of Maudie’ aired last night on ITV1 and is available to watch again on ITVX.
‘The Catch’ and ‘Line of Duty’ star and wife Clara Francis tell the story of how daughter Maudie tragically lost her life to sepsis on New Year’s Day in 2011 in the ITV Wales production.
As the family prepare to move from the flat where Maudie was born and died, they feel the time is right to tell their story and explore their grief.
UKST founder and joint CEO Dr Ron Daniels said: “We're so grateful to Jason and Clara for their immense courage in sharing their unfathomable loss in this documentary and for highlighting the importance of the work of our charity the UK Sepsis Trust and Child Bereavement UK.
“It really brings home in the most moving and poignant way the fact that sepsis can enter the lives of any family at any time, affecting any member of that family, all too often with tragic consequences.
“At the UKST we are on a mission to reduce the number of avoidable deaths from sepsis, which run into the thousands every year.
“We achieve this by raising public awareness so that people can access healthcare in the right way at the right time, by providing our widely-used tools and training to health professionals across the UK and beyond and through our support nurses who help people bereaved by sepsis, as well as supporting those who've survived in their ongoing recovery journey. We firmly believe that this documentary will save lives.”
The film premiered at Vue Cinema in Leicester Square in London on Tuesday 28 March, with guests including Olivia Coleman, Hugh Bonneville and UKST supporter Warwick Davies.
BAFTA award-winner Jason starred in the charity’s Sepsis Savvy video, which was launched in conjunction with lead partner, Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation.
The UKST aims to end preventable deaths from sepsis and improve outcomes for anyone affected by this potentially devastating condition.
This is achieved by raising awareness, supporting people affected by sepsis with bereavement or recovery and working with clinical staff to improve sepsis care.
