The search for Sutton Coldfield’s budding bloggers and junior journalists to star on the Royal Town’s new ‘What’s On’ website is on.

Aspiring writers are being called upon to showcase their skills and shout about their town on the new online hub, launched by Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID and Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council last month.

The featured writer will be awarded a £50 voucher and tasked with penning a short piece documenting their latest adventures and activities in the Royal Town, whether it’s a walk in the park or a family meal at their favourite restaurant.

As well as creating content for the blog, the rising media mogul will also be given a slot on Sutton Park Radio to chat about their highlights and shine a spotlight on the Royal Town’s offering.

Created for residents and visitors of Sutton Coldfield, the new What’s On website amalgamates the best of what the town centre has to offer, focusing on a calendar of events showcasing what there is to look forward to both on and offline.

As well as a regular blog, this new digital guide for Sutton Coldfield features all of the upcoming events and special offers specific to shops and businesses in the Royal Town.

Mike Bushell, Sutton Coldfield Town Centre BID Manager, said: “We’re pleased to be launching our search for Sutton’s best aspiring writers to contribute to the new What’s On Sutton Coldfield website. This is a fantastic opportunity for junior journalists to gain some hands-on experience, showcase their talent and shout about our wonderful town each month.

“The new site is a go-to town centre digital hub for the whole community, showcasing the services of businesses and organisations right across Sutton Coldfield.

“In addition to our blogs, we will be continually updating the site with new information to increase awareness of the town’s offering to encourage local residents and visitors to discover something new as we return to the ‘new normal’.”

The competition, which is open to aspiring bloggers aged nine to fourteen who live in Sutton Coldfield, is open until Tuesday 25th August.

To apply, applicants should supply a 200 to 300 word example or a sound recording of their work online https://whatsonsuttoncoldfield.co.uk/search-for-sutton-coldfields-budding-bloggers-and-junior-journalists-is-on/. Entries submitted via sound recording will be transcribed for online reading.

The winner will be announced on the What’s On Sutton Coldfield Facebook page on Friday 28th August.
