Runners of all ages and abilities can enjoy a great day out while raising funds for St Giles Hospice by joining #TeamStGiles at the Tamworth Gate Gallop this month (June 30).

Organised in aid of St Giles Hospice by the Peel Road Runners, the popular family event attracts hundreds of runners from across the Midlands each year. It raised £5,400 for St Giles in 2018 and has raised more than £105,000 for the hospice over the run’s 25-year history, on top of the money donated by individual charity fundraisers.

The Tamworth Gate Gallop is part of the Burton District Summer League events schedule and will be taking place at the Anker Valley Sports Complex, in Amington, on Sunday 30th June.

Tamworth Gate Gallop organizer Zoe Schnepp said: “The Tamworth Gate Gallop is a really nice off-road course in the Anker Valley and we get people who come back year after year. It’s not just a 10km race. There are three races so people can come with the whole family. Kids do their own 600m fun run, family members can do the 4.4km fun run and more serious runners can take part in the 10k.

“It’s been going for years so it’s a really nice tradition. It’s always been a lovely event and it’s got a really special atmosphere. There are so few events like this where toddlers can take part. It’s a great way to promote family fitness.

“Everyone who finishes gets a medal and it feels great. And because St Giles is so well regarded we have always had great support from local businesses. People always say how amazing the goodie bags are!

“St Giles is a really special charity for people locally. Everybody seems to know somebody who has been looked after there. The care is really personal and it’s a cause that’s really close to people’s hearts.”

The 10km race for entrants aged 15 or over has a £14 entry fee and starts at 11.15am. The 4.4km fun run for entrants aged 9 or over or accompanied by an adult has an £8 entry fee and starts at 9.45am. The 600m kids’ fun run has a £3 entry fee and starts at 9.45am, and parents or guardians are welcome to accompany their children.

Other facilities and attractions at the Tamworth Gate Gallop include massages for runners, entertainment, stalls and refreshments and everyone taking part will receive a finisher medal and a goodie bag.

St Giles Hospice Director of Fundraising Elinor Eustace said: “The Tamworth Gate Gallop is a wonderful run which has become a real Tamworth tradition and we’re delighted to be associated with an event which has something for all the family to enjoy.

“We’d really like to thank everyone in the Peel Road Runners for their unstinting support through the years, which has helped to raise a total of more than £105,000 for the vital work that St Giles does in the local community.”
