Andrew Mitchell MP welcomed the Director of Community Engagement at High Speed Two (HS2), Julie King, to a meeting in his office at the House of Commons.

In their discussion, Andrew and Julie talked about community funding, opportunities for the Royal Town’s businesses and how skilled jobs might be brought to the Royal Town. Andrew heard from Julie how the business engagement team from HS2 have made direct contact with the Sutton Coldfield Chamber of Commerce – where local firms were provided with the details of how they can bid for opportunities to take part in the HS2 supply chain.

Following his two recent visits to Sutton Coldfield College, Andrew was especially delighted to hear that the College will be visited by the HS2 skills team, to share information about the opportunities for skilled jobs at HS2 in particular, and with their supply chain more generally.

After the meeting, Andrew said:

“HS2 supports some 9,000 jobs across the United Kingdom. I was impressed to hear for myself how HS2 is planning to increase access to skilled employment here in the Royal Town. I am particularly pleased that HS2 are firmly engaged with our Royal Town’s excellent Chamber of Commerce to ensure that local businesses have the chance to involve themselves as much as possible with the opportunities that HS2 provides them.”
