Businesses in Sutton Coldfield town centre have received a timely boost from the mayor, Cllr Jane Mosson.
In one of the newly-elected mayor’s first engagements, Cllr Mosson visited town centre businesses to discuss their experiences of lockdown and to thank those who have remained open throughout.
Among the retailers Cllr Mosson visited were WH Smith, Waterstones, Café Nero and Grapetree.
She said: “It was wonderful to visit Sutton Coldfield town centre and see shops and cafes open for business.
“The majority of the shops who were able to open have now done so and I hope the remaining few will follow suit in the coming weeks.
“The businesses I spoke to were all very positive about the recovery and were pleased to be open and serving people again.”
“My ongoing appreciation goes out to those retailers that have been supporting vulnerable residents, NHS staff and key workers throughout lockdown. Let’s all get behind businesses in our town centre and local centres and shop local.”
Town Centre BID manager Mike Bushell said: “We really appreciated a visit from our new mayor.
“The last few months have been difficult for everyone and our town centre businesses have worked hard to reopen in trying circumstances. It was really good to see that being appreciated.”
