A carer from Fairway Homecare has been rewarded for her commitment to the cause with a top industry award.

Jodie Cheney (pictured) won the Home Care Newcomer Award at the regional Great British Care Awards – after being described by the judging panel as “a passionate and dedicated individual who puts the service users at the heart of everything” and “an asset to the sector.”

Jodie has demonstrated her commitment to care since July 2018, when she travelled three hours each day to attend Fairway’s ‘My Care Portfolio’ programme in order to develop her professional skills.

She ensured her portfolio was completed to a high-standard and engaged with classroom discussions where she showed an understanding and empathetic approach to the reasoning and opinions of others.

She was able to build her knowledge through a range of theory and practical-based assessments.

Jodie has since been working for Fairway as a both a healthcare assistant and support worker.

Alex O’Neill, operations director at Fairway Homecare, said: “We were enormously proud and even more elated when Jodie was shortlisted and won the Homecare Newcomer Award.

“Jodie is one more off the production line of wonderful self-grown, care professionals that are making a real difference in the West Midlands.

“Jodie completed the My Care Portfolio programme and demonstrates all the key ingredients of a wonderful carer - empathy, a caring nature and compassion are crucial and she embodies them perfectly.”
