he event attracted more than 65 attendees and showcased performances from students of all ages and abilities.
Organised by local guitar tutor David Lycett, the workshop is one of several performance sessions held each year to help students develop confidence and real stage experience.
Unlike a typical recital, the workshop focuses heavily on the skills behind performing live.
Students learn practical techniques for preparing for a performance, managing nerves, and developing a positive mindset before stepping on stage.
Guidance on relaxation, focus, and preparation helps students feel more confident when performing in front of an audience.
David said: “The aim is to give students a safe and supportive environment where they can experience performing in front of an audience.
“It’s not just about playing the right notes it’s about learning how to relax, prepare properly, and enjoy sharing music with others.”
During the afternoon, a wide variety of performances took place. Beginners performed some of the first songs they have learned, while more advanced players demonstrated their progress with more complex pieces and confident stage presence.
Students of different ages and abilities all had the opportunity to perform.
For many students, it was their first time performing live. Family members and friends filled the room to support the performers, creating an encouraging and positive atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
Alongside running workshops, David provides guitar tuition through a range of formats. Lessons are delivered locally in schools, as well as through online sessions that allow students from different locations to learn and develop their skills.
David’s teaching approach has also attracted recognition within the music industry.
His work has received recommendations from a former guitarist who performed with rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, who famously grew up in Birmingham.
