Bishop Vesey's Grammar School (BVGS) charity team has smashed their ambitious target of gathering Christmas gifts for their three chosen charities.

A total of 2,005 gifts were donated for YMCA, St Basils and St Giles Hospice.

The BVGS Giving Tree – Spirit of Christmas 2022, which is an annual festive fixture in the school’s calendar, was situated in Gracechurch Centre, Sutton Coldfield in November/December 2022.

Local people, BVGS Corporate Partners, BVGS students and their families as well as alumni contributed to this charitable initiative as a combined effort.

Harry Hubbleday, BVGS Charity Captain said: “The response of local people as well as our Corporate Partners, Alumni, students and their families to our Giving Tree this year has been positively astonishing.

“Our students organised every aspect of this initiative themselves as we are committed to helping good causes. To receive over 2,000 gifts from people, knowing that times are tough for everyone at the moment, is an amazing response. We delivered the gifts to our selected charities just before Christmas and they were overwhelmed with people’s generosity.

“I would like to express our sincere thanks to Phil Wheat, Wm Wheat & Son, who kindly donated the Christmas tree again this year, as well as to the entire Gracechurch Centre team for their help and support in making this a successful annual event.”

The chosen charities responded very positively to the donations. Pauline Clarke, St Basils said: “We were truly overwhelmed by the wonderful donations that the Bishop Vesey students made to our charity. The parcels were immediately whisked off to our nearby projects and were gratefully received by our young people. Thank you again”.

Claire Bolton, Lead on the BVGS Corporate Partners Programme and BVGS Internship Programme said: “The school is super proud of the whole student team effort towards their own Giving Tree initiative. The number of gifts received is an outstanding testament to the students’ concerted co-ordination, skills and capabilities.”
