A care home in Sutton Coldfield is inviting local people to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

On Saturday 29th June, from 2pm-4pm, the team at Mercia Grange on Lichfield Road will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event to celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Mercia Grange has organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun for all. Visitors can look forward to a live singer to get everyone in the party spirit, and there will also be a barbecue and Pimm’s cocktails on offer. Visitors can also try their luck on a tombola, raffle and summer fete games. Guests can browse stalls to browse including cake and jewellery, and younger visitors can enjoy face painting.

Shirley Gibbs, home manager at Mercia Grange, said: “Creative activities are such an important part of life for people in care, whether it’s painting to help enhance hand-eye coordination, or just reminiscing by putting on some music – the arts are a vital part of life here at Mercia Grange.

“We’re so excited to be hosting our Care Home Open Day event this month and opening our doors to the local people of Sutton Coldfield to show them just how much fun you can have in a care home.”

As part of a nationwide competition across Care UK homes, Mercia Grange will be developing a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which will be showcased at the event.

Mercia Grange is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia, and short-term respite care. The three-storey care home, which features 67 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
