Organisers of the Sutton Coldfield Community Games are doing their bit to keep people active and inspired despite Covid-19 halting the event.

The Games were due to take place tomorrow but are unable to do so due to the pandemic.

However, resourceful organisers are launching a new website featuring a series of video challenges, a directory of Games activity partners, an activity map linking to the 12 Birmingham Commonwealth Games venues and a downloadable certificate.

The video content will remain on the website until 15 August.

The website can be viewed here.

Games founder Dennis Kennedy said: “I am really looking forward to seeing how we can still help people to become active through our new website.

“We have some great fun videos for people to try and with their family and friends, where they safely can, and also a Club Directory highlighting the clubs that are still active in some shape, way or form at this time.

“We also have a Facebook Live Bhangra class at 2.30pm on the 11th with Bally Bhogal from BBX, pictured here in training with Buddy, the Community Games mascot. Bhangra dancing really is great fun and great exercise too, I encourage you all to tune in and have a go, it’s guaranteed to make you smile!

“On 15 August we will refresh the website with new inclusive material supporting people with physical and learning difficulties too.

“I think in time to come this ‘web’ string that has been added to the bow will run alongside our ’normal’ face to face Community Games and help to extend our reach as far as possible.

“Essentially we want to connect people with providers and I know that once people make those connections their lives are improved, especially their health and wellbeing. So I hope that people will enjoy our first step into online support.”
