Birmingham Foodbank, part of the Trussell Trust’s nationwide network, provides three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in the city who have been referred to the charity in crisis.

The donation, which included pasta, rice and canned goods, will go directly towards supporting individuals and families who rely on the foodbank’s services during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.

The quantity of food donated by Amazon in Sutton Coldfield will feed over 40 people in the community for three days.

Lisa Swan, general manager at Amazon in Sutton Coldfield, said: “We’re proud to support Birmingham Foodbank with this donation.

“We know many families in our community are under pressure and we hope this contribution makes a real difference to those who need it most.”

Eli Holland, project manager at Birmingham Foodbank, added: “We would like to thank the Amazon team in Sutton Coldfield for this generous donation.

“Demand for our service continues to be significant and is essential for many people facing hardship so support like this is vital in helping us meet the needs of people in our local community.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates.

Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need.

The West Midlands Multibank opened this year, with Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC).

The initiative has donated more than 12 million surplus goods to over 800,000 families across Wales, Scotland, Greater Manchester, London, Tees Valley and Birmingham.

This year, the Multibank will send one-million orders to families across the UK.

Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.

Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose.

Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
