Sir Andrew Mitchell said:
“Having been heavily involved in securing the funding under the last government it was fabulous to see the brilliant new conditions for pupils, teachers and support staff.
“I was joined by local campaigners Anja Pawson and John Cooper, whose relationship with the school began during the open day held to celebrate the old building.
“Anja and John's support was especially valued when they helped the school resolve a nine-week waste collection issue, leading to regular and reliable waste collections.
“In recognition of their continued commitment, the headteacher warmly invited them back to tour the new school building with me.
“This is such a good news story. I want to thank and congratulate the construction team and all those involved in ensuring this project was completed in time for this new term.”
Here is a report on a very happy day from the Head Teacher Alison Walklett:
“We are absolutely thrilled to have moved into our incredible new school building at the beginning of the new school year.
“This is the culmination of many years of working with our Governing Board, local authority and the DfE to secure recognition of the need for a new building for our school community.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who has supported this work along the way, including governors past and present, supported by the local authority and Sutton Coldfield MP, Sir Andrew Mitchell. We are all aware of the pressures on public funding and we are grateful to the DfE for both recognising the need for a new building and for allocating the necessary funds.
“Our pupils, staff and families absolutely love our new school. Our new school building and facilities are superb, and will enable us to further develop our aspirational curriculum and excellent educational opportunities. We have been extremely fortunate to work with our contractors, Tilbury Douglas, who have been completely invested in our school community and worked incredibly hard to enable us to move into our new building 10 weeks earlier than originally planned.
“We were delighted to welcome Sir Andrew Mitchell MP to formally open our new building this morning, alongside Tilbury Douglas Project Lead, Greg Jones; Chair of Governors, Katy Lewis; CEO of Broadleaf Partnership Trust, Claire Pritchard and some very proud New Oscott Year 6 pupils.”
