Starring the estate's resident young owl character, this new tale follows his woodland adventure as he explores the trees, wildlife and seasonal colours found across the site, pondering the beauty and Remembrance symbolism of the living landscape as he searches for the all-important owl tree.
Written by Gardens’ team member Maria Howes and illustrated by local Lichfield artist Leah Riley, the book celebrates the natural world that surrounds the Gardens.
The National Forest, a long-standing partner of the site, has sponsored publication of the book and will be sending a copy to every primary school located within the National Forest.
Maria Howes, author of ‘Arbie and the owl tree’ and head of Marketing and Business Development at the National Remembrance Gardens, said: “We had an incredible response to the first Arbie book and I’m really hoping that this next adventure will be enjoyed by many.
“Arbie and the owl tree’ really focuses on capturing the sense of wonder enjoyed by young people as they explore the natural environment, and as well as a wonderful partnership with the National Forest Company, funds raised through sale of the book will continue to support our work sharing the inspirational stories reflected within our living landscape.”
Carolyn Sankey, director of Development at the National Forest said: “At the National Forest, we know that inspiring a love of trees and nature starts at a young age.
“Arbie and the owl tree’ is a wonderful invitation for children to explore the natural world, encouraging curiosity about the wildlife, woodlands and seasonal beauty that surround them.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with the National Remembrance Gardens through this project and are excited to help share Arbie's latest adventure with primary schools across the National Forest.”
Throughout half term, the National Remembrance Gardens will be hosting a programme of family-friendly activities connected with the book, including storytelling sessions, outdoor trails and creative crafts.
Visitors can explore the 150-acre estate as they help Arbie search for colourful leaves and other autumnal treasures in this new outdoor trail.
Younger visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out for wildlife and trees that reflect the rich colours of the season, providing a fun and interactive way to connect with nature and enjoy the magic of autumn.
Arbie’s i-Spy: Autumn Trail costs £2.50 per person and runs from 10am to 4pm, 24 October to 1 November.
Families are invited to gather round and take their seats, as the site’s interactive storytelling sessions bring ‘Arbie and the owl tree’ to life. Taking visitors on a journey of the imagination, these sessions will explore Arbie's latest woodland adventure and the wonders unveiled along the way.
Interactive storytelling is free, with advance booking recommended, and runs at selected times throughout the day from 26 to 30 October.
Younger visitors can unleash their creativity during free drop-in arts and crafts sessions, making Arbie inspired creations. The free session runs from 11am to 3pm, 26 to 30 October.
As part of the Gardens' 25th Anniversary celebrations, visitors have been encouraged to pick up their free Explorer's Passport and collect stamps while taking part in activities across the site. October Half Term marks the final opportunity for younger visitors to complete their passport and earn a special prize by becoming the ultimate explorer.
The Explorer’s Passport is free and available until the end of October.
The Gardens are home to two outdoor play areas for younger visitors. The Children's Sensory Play Garden can be found near the Remembrance Centre, while a second children's play area, complete with an accompanying picnic area, is located further into the grounds.
Visit the website for more information . Entry to the site is free, although parking charges apply. To guarantee entry and get the most out of their visit, visitors are encouraged to book in advance.
