Sir David, who holds several prominent leadership and advisory positions across the NHS and global health sector, brings a wealth of expertise that will further strengthen the charity’s mission to deliver exceptional pre‑hospital emergency care across the Midlands.

As an independent healthcare provider operating in close partnership with the NHS - and without government funding - the charity relies entirely on public support to maintain its advanced clinical services.

Sir David’s appointment underscores Midlands Air Ambulance Charity’s commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and the continual enhancement of patient care for some of the region’s most critically ill and injured people.

Sir David has decades of senior leadership experience within the NHS, including serving as chief executive of NHS England.

During this time, he oversaw significant national reforms and championed improvements in patient outcomes.

His insight will support the charity as it continues to advance its clinical capabilities and invest in lifesaving critical care provision across its six‑county operational area.

Sir David said: “Midlands Air Ambulance Charity plays a vital role in delivering lifesaving pre‑hospital emergency care when every second counts.

“I have long admired the professionalism of its crews and the impact the service has on communities across the Midlands. I am honoured to become a Patron and look forward to supporting the charity’s continued growth and innovation.”
