It was our first visit and we loved it. The food was delicious and so was the wine. We had food from both the menu, and their specials board; the balance of flavours worked really well. The service was great, both friendly banter and efficient . The staff even put up with my husband’s jokes. We sat outside as the evening was warm, and it gave us a European feel which was just perfect. As a local venue we couldn’t recommend it enough. We look forward to visiting again soon.

The food is no more than average, while on vacation is was a disappointing choice. The pasta with the fish dish was over cooked and the lamb while tasty was dull with peas and new potatoes.

Lovely people and setting. Menu to be desired, not a great selection. We chose a salad that was to ‘main’ size which would have been interesting to see as a starter. The salad was nice but needed other elements to it. Maybe less spinach and something else instead ☺️

We had a lovely meal celebrating a friends celebration. I thought the menu was limited, this may have been because we were a largish table
I thoroughly enjoyed the haddock scotch egg. The risotto was a little stodgy but the flavours were good and I highly recommend the Paris Brest
We will definitely return

We visited for a family birthday treat. We visited for Breakfast so can not comment beyond that.
I would not recommend for breakfast, very limited choice for breakfast and very expensive, a number of us had eggs on toast - food was nice but very small amount of food and very expensive. Others had pastries as they didn’t like or fancy eggs on toast (not much else on menu) they again were nice but very expensive.
The 2 waitresses that served us were great and offered a very friendly and helpful service.
In summary, great staff, expensive for what it is, limited menu. Far better options locally for breakfast.

First visit, just for lunch which was lovely and I hope to return to try out the dinner one evening soon! Friendly staff with one of the owners supervising operations, all home cooked food, charcuterie platter was generous with lovely focaccia and a traditional tartiflette with side salad, followed by desserts: a bread and butter pudding and some delicious poached quinces with homemade pistachio ice cream that was sooooo good! Merci beaucoup et à bientôt!

How lucky the people of Suffolk are to have such a fine establishment in our area. I frequent the restaurant regularly and I am never disappointed. Food is always exceptional, service is great and overall the quality for the price is excellent value. I don't often have a dessert in many restaurants as I never feel like it is worth the calorie count, but you never want to skip dessert at The Secret Garden. I particularly like how they pair the food to the wine. First class and keep up the good work. I will be back again tomorrow.

The Secret Green is housed in a lovely Tudor style building in the middle of the Suffolk town of Sudbury. On the face of it, it is a tea room but there is much more to enjoy. The restaurant at the back and in the courtyard has a pleasant relaxed ambience, enhanced but the owner and staff. The menu is small, which is what you want, and the food is freshly cooked from local ingredients. We ordered gratinated goats cheese, crock monsieur, haddock fish cake. The goats cheese was delicious with a lovely salad as was the crock, but strangely without a béchamel sauce. The smoked haddock fish cake was dry but very tasty on a delicious fragrant sauce and green beans and well cooked prawns. With pints of Nethergate cider, it all went down very well for £80 for three covers. Well worth a visit.

This is the second time we have eaten at The Secret Garden in the evening and both times we have been impressed with the quality of the food, the very friendly service and the lovely laid back atmosphere. We had three courses and loved the food - very delicious. We will be back another time!

After reading the reviews we were dissappointed. Staff were friendly but the food was mediocre and my steak @£35 was more like a minute steak than the nice rib eye I expected. It was delivered on a bed of soggy, not cripsy, sliced potatoe and onion. The steak was tasty just not a lot of it. The wifes crayfish salad looked like it had been thrown on to the plate and didnt look apetizing at all.
Creme brule was bitter as sugar was over done, the colour gave it away, black not golden brown.
Was quite busy and nice atmospere just didnt meet up to expectaions.

Third time we have been there this year and TBH it would seem they have a new chef. Our meals were only OK. I had a the special rib eye steak which although tasted great it was only 1/4 inch thick and I needed dessert to fill me up.
With so many great restaurants near by they need to spend a bit more time on presentation and delivery.
This was the first time that no one asked if everything was OK with meal, perhaps they knew it was not the usual standard. We will go back and give them one more chance as it has been good previoulsy.

Daughter’s ordered an afternoon high tea for five of us. Was seated very quickly and our sandwich orders were taken. The service to bring us drinks was a little slow, but that said it was extremely busy in there. Once we had received our pots of tea and sandwiches which were absolutely delicious, we were brought out two cake stands filled with scones, cakes and macaroons all of which was fresh and delicious. There was so much left that we all brought boxes home with us. There was so young man that served our table was very smiley and polite. Lovely place to go out too. Thank you all for such a super experience. Will be returning very soon.

As always, our trip to The Secret Garden was a delight.
A warm welcome, friendly and professional service. A relaxed ambience and, of course, delicious food, accompanied by a lovely wine.
The Secret Garden’s secret lies in the reliability and consistency of its delivery of a high quality all-round experience.
What a delicious, delightful way to spend over two hours on a Friday afternoon. Thankyou.

We called into the Secret Garden whilst visiting Sudbury for the first time, having looked at other dog friendly eateries we found this treasure just off the main area of town

Really friendly greeting and efficient service, even an individual bowl of water for our small dog

The food was beautifully prepared and served, pork pate with side salad and home cooked sourdough bread, and also mackerel pate with horseradish served on sourdough with side salad

A peaceful location although busy with an lovely menu, we will return - thank you all 👍

Our first visit to this first class restaurant set in a stunning old beamed building in the lovely town of Sudbury. There is parking on the street on the market sqaure just a few minutes walk away. I could write a long glowing description but all I am going to say is that it was excellent in every aspect.

A lovely experience. Such friendly staff including mine host. The quality and range of food were excellent. Used extensively by local residents which proves its success.

This is as good as it gets for a charming modestly-priced bistro / cafe in the heart of Sudbury, itself a great hub for regional touring. High quality food, excellent variety and incomparable service from the young staff, watched over with great panache and humour by the co-owner. We breakfasted here two days running - our hotel breakfast, already paid for, was borderline awful - and had no regrets at all for paying twice. The Secret Garden is a gem.

We popped in here for a late lunch. Had some delicious warm scones with clotted cream and homemade Jam. The food was lovely, service was very good and all the staff were really helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself had plenty of character and charm and we will certainly visit again.

We love the Secret Garden! It takes over an hour from where we live but we go frequently for lunch as we meet friends who live about the same distance away in another direction. It is a real joy to be there. The food is delicious, the atmosphere excellent, and the staff are not only engaging and friendly, but very good at their jobs - noticing when you need something, for example and never minding how long we take to choose something as we are so busy catching up with our friends. The owners are always in evidence and very hands on and it is such a happy place that we we leave with huge smiles on our faces.
If we lived nearer we would be there even more often. Thank you Secret Garden!

We stopped here on our way back home to Essex from staying in Suffolk and The Secret Garden was such a lucky find as we didn't know Sudbury well. We were warmly welcomed and offered a table in the gorgeous garden. We were a little early for the lunch menu but that was not a problem at all. I had the vegetable focaccia which had such a generous range and helping of delicious roasted veggies, served with a crisp salad which was perfectly dressed. Their take on a classic croque Monsieur was also thoroughly enjoyed my husband and daughter. My son relished the goats cheese on sourdough. It was all just exceptionally tasty and beautifully presented. I will be back.

So, whilst looking for a family friendly lunch whilst visiting another attraction in Sudbury - came upon The Secret Garden - how lucky were we! We went for a three generation family lunch - which is previous time and the staff were so friendly, professional and attentive. The food was fantastic and the ambience just superb. We had bacon and brie foccacia and the tartiflette (not eaten by the same person!). The restaurant is a very easy walk from the Kingfisher Leisure Centre car park - where you get 3 hours free parking too. We will be re-visiting and are looking forward to trying more of the menu. Thank you for making our precious family time so much more amazing today.

Having read previous reviews of the Secret garden my wife and I were keen to have a meal there.
The restaurant is in a 15th century building that has a great atmosphere. The staff were welcoming and knowledgeable.
My wife had the pea hummus and I had the lobster gyoza . The pea hummus was freshly made and very tasty . I was slightly disappointed with the gyoza in that the delicate lobster taste was lost to stronger tasting ingredients. For main course my wife ad a tatiflette that was beautifully cooked and I had the honey roast ham , new potatoes and greens together with a delicately flavoured whole grain mustard mayonnaise that brought the dish together. For desert I had the chocolate volcano that just oozed delicious liquid chocolate over the plate. My wife had a passion fruit sorbet which she loved. All the dishes were home made in the kitchen by the French chef . A delightful meal , reasonably priced making the perfect evening. We will return if ever in the area again.
