Newly opened so had to check out three times to compare as had a lot to live up to.....
Joe & Andrew with team are providing a super smooth and wonderfully tasty Menu that keeps The Fox on our favourites list.Would like to see a specials Menu in the evening as well but that would only help visiting even more times in a month... !
Brilliant re invention, great Menu, wonderful service and lovingly prepared tasty food.

This has just reopened so we gave it a try for Sunday lunch. Very nice. The staff have obviously been trained to smile at customers (a lot) which is good but maybe a little wearing after a while. The sevice was excellent, the surroundings could do with more soft furnishings as a little cold and lacked cosyness. We both had beef which was very tender and tasty but had quite a lot of inedible fat. For pudding we shared a plum and apple crumble with homemade custard which was divine! Pint and half of good ale and the bill was £52. Ok? Maybe? Hoped this place would stand out from the rest but due to lack of atmosphere and maybe the price being a little more than exspected we won't go back.

Our first visit and were impressed by the clean lines of this restaurant. We were greeted by friendly staff and were shown to our table. Which i had to admit seemed rather sparse plastic chairs. Unfortunately, we had some rather noisy diners nearby by which was rather off putting. Perhaps some soft furnishings would be a good idea to deaden noise from other diners.
The menu was comprehensive but seemed to lack information of the suitability of the food i.e. if it was suitable for Vegans etc. All in all the food was to a high standard and very tasty. Will definitely go again.

We were weekly visitors to the previous Bulmer Fox. They always accommodated any request for the kids' food, and the main menu offered simple, high quality food, with seasonal variations. The Fox burger was the best burger in the world. Simply and perfectly cooked, with a melting herb butter, the very best chips and a beautiful rustic tomato sauce. It was nothing too fancy. But lovingly cooked. And genuinely the greatest meal you could ever wish for - I sorely miss it. We were so sad when Henry Ford and his family closed the restaurant, but understood the challenges they faced.
So when the Fox at Bulmer reopened recently, we were excited. Could it live up to the unpretentiousness and amazingly high quality of its previous incarnation?
In summary, not quite. But not bad either.
The food, service and atmosphere aren't yet close to the previous experience, but give it a chance. The staff are friendly and seem to be feeling their way well. The food is OK, if a little inconsistent. The prices are also a little too high for a weekly visit, but not eye wateringly high.
We wish Henry Ford had trialed higher prices for a while. We would have been delighted to pay more. It really was the best place to eat in a 30 mile radius.
But we now also wish the new Fox at Bulmer the very best of luck, and will visit again soon. We hope to find a more consistently high quality meal as the team gain in confidence.

This pub went through a period when it was sometimes open and sometimes closed to the effect that you could never be sure it was going to be open. So we tended to avoid it. I think it also changed hands a couple of times.
Happily it is new ownership and has joined a small group of existing pubs / restaurants in the Bury St Edmunds area that are linked to the Brewshed Brewery. It has been extensively refurbished through summer 2019 and is now newly re-opened.
The premises are smart, light and airy and very well presented. Staff members were welcoming and friendly. Although a pub it also operates as a restaurant with many tables laid up for eating. The menu is interesting.
There was a good choice of draft real ales on offer, based on the beers from Brewshed Brewery which I particularly like, though not from there exclusively. We ordered only baguettes from the menu rather than a full meal and this was not a problem. The food we ordered was nicely presented, tasted delicious and the baguettes were well filled.
Whilst not as cheap as some other premises we were happy to pay the slight premium because of the nature of the premises, the good food and beer and excellent service.
Outside there is an extensive car park.
Perhaps it is because it is a ‘new’ venue in the Sudbury area, but early on Thursday lunchtime the premises were full. Luckily we had reserved a table (based upon the experience of someone else who has called there on Monday the same week). We heard several casual callers without a booking face the choice of a long wait or leaving and going elsewhere – so be warned.
Like the other pubs in the small group, I image this one will remain popular and well customised. I am definitely likely to make a return visit.

Visited for lunch. Thought the refurbishment was fresh although very little different.
Two mains chosen, the fish pie had only a white fish and salmon, not a prawn in sight and the fish and chips were average, the fish bland, and the chips definitely not homemade although the kitchen said that they were. The peas with this dish were very strange, a crushed garden pea. Staff were efficient and friendly.
Underwhelmed and won’t rush back.

Popped over for lunch with a friend, we didn't book but were glad we'd got there early as part way through service they were full and having to turn people away! They bring a carafe of water and glasses to the table for everyone, as part of their service, followed by a small board of bread, accompanied by a triangle of butter, for you to munch on.I had the Portobello mushroom & cheddar rarebit on toasted focaccia which was divine, with a side order of hand cut chips. The chips had skins on, which wouldn't be to every one's taste, however, I found them delicious. I followed with cheesecake, which had a lovely tart berry compote to accompany it. The table service was excellent throughout and nothing was too much trouble. Well done, and I'm sure we'll be back :)

We had a late table so restaurant was very busy when we arrived, but staff were very attentive and extremely polite and professional.
Food was top notch and interesting with some specials added to the regular menu. You definitely wont go home hungry or disappointed! We had guests from Germany who are real foodies and were very impressed.
We also had a disabled member in the group and the staff were very accommodating and helpful both before and during our visit and the disabled facilities and access are excellent. Only negative - soft drinks are very expensive. Will definitely be going back!

We spent a wonderful afternoon at The Fox and highly recommend it. The food was amazing and the staff and management were cheerful, competent, warm and friendly. The mussels were superb and our daughter described the sticky toffee pudding as the best ever. We selected a variety of main courses and each one was delicious and cooked to perfection. The team here deserve to do well. It’s obvious they care passionately about the diner experience.

What a great addition to the neighbourhood - since it opened we’ve already been 3-4 times and each time we’re taken care of brilliantly: as a large party, as a family with small children, and again as just a couple. Food is outstanding and the vibe is welcoming, relaxed and classy. Kids menu is only really appropriate for adventurous little eaters - none of your average fish fingers and mac and cheese on this menu! Overall, just love it, well done. Pork schnitzel, chicken salad and the cheesecake stand out in my memory. Definitely book though to avoid disappointment.

As a regular visitor to the fox under the previous owner I was a little unsure as to what it would be like. I didn’t need to worry, we went there on Saturday night 29.9.19 having pre-booked our table for four. We were greeted on arrival by a friendly staff who showed us to our table, our drinks order was taken and delivered to our table within a very short time. We all ordered different dishes so a good cross section of their menu was tasted. The service was good, the food across all three courses was excellent and the price was what I would have expected from a restaurant of this style. The new owner came to our table and introduced himself which was a really nice touch. I wish this family run restaurant all the best in making this establishment the best in the area, and as for the bad reviews, I suggest that you book your table and allow the business to show you what they are really about. We will again be regulars, and that makes me very happy.

We’re local, so were regular visitors under the previous owner. We know the Crown at Hartest, so had high expectations of the Fox under the new regime. And it was very good ! Familiar menu and wine list; good food, and efficient and attentive staff. What’s not to like ? We will certainly keep coming back 👍🏻

Returned to the fox after it was reopened by new owners. Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch. Can’t recommend the beef enough ! Mouthwatering. Had the sticky toffee pudding after being advised by our waitress and it was heavenly. Service was attentive and friendly. 2 adults and one child very happy and full. Looking forward to return.

The Fox at Bulmer Tye only re-opened yesterday under completely new management and what a change! The interior has been refitted and there appeared to be many more tables. Despite it being very busy for a lunchtime, the staff were friendly, attentive and very efficient. We choose from the lunch set menu and the food was excellent. Give it a try and don't pay any attention to reviews written before Sept 2019!
