I visited recently and the food was very nice, I went with my family and had a two course meal. Our waitress Izzy was outstanding, very attentive and pretty.

First visit since having new owners. We were a party of 7 for a light lunch and dietary needs. The staff offered a vegan alternative with no trouble, they were very attentive, enthusiastic and professional. The fat chips were delicious and I enjoyed my smoked mackerel with sourdough. Missed the bread with olive oil and balsamic but had sourdough and butter instead. I for one will be returning.

First time we have been since the Fox reopened, liked the new decor. We all enjoyed our meals with friendly service and thought the set lunch menu was very good value. My only niggles would be it was very noisy, the service was rather slow (both maybe due to a large party seated nearby) and the hanging lights over the table started flickering slightly. We'll certainly come again and give the Fox another whirl

We turned up on Friday evening without a booking. Lots of cars in the car pRk but still plenty of room. The restaurant was quite busy but they quickly found us a table. The staff were numerous and we didn’t have to wait long for attention. Mixed menu, not full of old favourites but very enticing. Lots of new things to try or familiar dishes with a twist. Excellent food served promptly. Can’t stress enough how good the staff were, they made sure it was an enjoyable evening. A good evening out.

We met friends there last month and enjoyed our meal.
However, as time moved on the noise was quite deafening, every group or table seemed to be competing to hear each other. What a disappointing outcome, we will meet the same friends somewhere else next time. How places change, not always for the better.

Went with the family for Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. The last thing I did before leaving was to book a table for my daughters birthday in December.

Delighted that The Fox has re-opened and that the food is of such good quality. We visited for lunch and were very happy with the set menu that was on offer. There was a pleasing selection at every course, the food was beautifully presented and very enjoyable. The complimentary bread was very welcome. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was very busy, with a good atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Good food and nice atmosphere. Glad it is open again after being shut a while. New owners but same quality food. You can book now too. So to avoid disappointment I would book especially for busy times like Saturday night or Sunday lunch.

The staff are really helpful and friendly, the whole setup seemed really promising when we arrived but it was all rather underwhelming.
There was one vegetarian choice on the main menu plus another on the specials board which was quite disappointing when compared to the two different types of steak on the main menu. I ordered the mushroom & quinoa burger which was large, but was just quite mushy, lacked flavour and really would have been better accompanied by some salad to freshen the experience up.
The beer didn't seem to be very well kept which is disappointing for a somewhere so closely associated with a brewery, my husband had an upset stomach the next day.
I'm a pudding person, but the unimaginative options available mean that we left and went to our favourite pub for dessert instead.

Visited for my partner and mines 20th anniversary, what a disappointment, we asked for a nice table, was put in a corner, which had hard plastic chairs, it was freezing cold. The menu is okay but not enough choice, only 2 steaks and everything covered in garlic, complimentary water was supposed to be brought straight to the table, had to ask for it, dessert had so much ginger in the biscuit base it totally overpowered the cheesecake, staff were good but won't be going back

Joe & Andrew with team are providing a super smooth and wonderfully tasty Menu that keeps The Fox on our favourites list.Would like to see a specials Menu in the evening as well but that would only help visiting even more times in a month... !

This has just reopened so we gave it a try for Sunday lunch. Very nice. The staff have obviously been trained to smile at customers (a lot) which is good but maybe a little wearing after a while. The sevice was excellent, the surroundings could do with more soft furnishings as a little cold and lacked cosyness. We both had beef which was very tender and tasty but had quite a lot of inedible fat. For pudding we shared a plum and apple crumble with homemade custard which was divine! Pint and half of good ale and the bill was £52. Ok? Maybe? Hoped this place would stand out from the rest but due to lack of atmosphere and maybe the price being a little more than exspected we won't go back.

Our first visit and were impressed by the clean lines of this restaurant. We were greeted by friendly staff and were shown to our table. Which i had to admit seemed rather sparse plastic chairs. Unfortunately, we had some rather noisy diners nearby by which was rather off putting. Perhaps some soft furnishings would be a good idea to deaden noise from other diners.
The menu was comprehensive but seemed to lack information of the suitability of the food i.e. if it was suitable for Vegans etc. All in all the food was to a high standard and very tasty. Will definitely go again.

We were weekly visitors to the previous Bulmer Fox. They always accommodated any request for the kids' food, and the main menu offered simple, high quality food, with seasonal variations. The Fox burger was the best burger in the world. Simply and perfectly cooked, with a melting herb butter, the very best chips and a beautiful rustic tomato sauce. It was nothing too fancy. But lovingly cooked. And genuinely the greatest meal you could ever wish for - I sorely miss it. We were so sad when Henry Ford and his family closed the restaurant, but understood the challenges they faced.
So when the Fox at Bulmer reopened recently, we were excited. Could it live up to the unpretentiousness and amazingly high quality of its previous incarnation?
In summary, not quite. But not bad either.
The food, service and atmosphere aren't yet close to the previous experience, but give it a chance. The staff are friendly and seem to be feeling their way well. The food is OK, if a little inconsistent. The prices are also a little too high for a weekly visit, but not eye wateringly high.
We wish Henry Ford had trialed higher prices for a while. We would have been delighted to pay more. It really was the best place to eat in a 30 mile radius.
But we now also wish the new Fox at Bulmer the very best of luck, and will visit again soon. We hope to find a more consistently high quality meal as the team gain in confidence.

This pub went through a period when it was sometimes open and sometimes closed to the effect that you could never be sure it was going to be open. So we tended to avoid it. I think it also changed hands a couple of times.
Happily it is new ownership and has joined a small group of existing pubs / restaurants in the Bury St Edmunds area that are linked to the Brewshed Brewery. It has been extensively refurbished through summer 2019 and is now newly re-opened.
The premises are smart, light and airy and very well presented. Staff members were welcoming and friendly. Although a pub it also operates as a restaurant with many tables laid up for eating. The menu is interesting.
There was a good choice of draft real ales on offer, based on the beers from Brewshed Brewery which I particularly like, though not from there exclusively. We ordered only baguettes from the menu rather than a full meal and this was not a problem. The food we ordered was nicely presented, tasted delicious and the baguettes were well filled.
Whilst not as cheap as some other premises we were happy to pay the slight premium because of the nature of the premises, the good food and beer and excellent service.
Outside there is an extensive car park.
Perhaps it is because it is a ‘new’ venue in the Sudbury area, but early on Thursday lunchtime the premises were full. Luckily we had reserved a table (based upon the experience of someone else who has called there on Monday the same week). We heard several casual callers without a booking face the choice of a long wait or leaving and going elsewhere – so be warned.
Like the other pubs in the small group, I image this one will remain popular and well customised. I am definitely likely to make a return visit.
