UP TO 300 new homes could be built on derelict canal-side land near Stroud under ambitious development plans unveiled this week.

Planning consultant Paul Fong of the Canal Forum – a group set up and chaired by Stroud MP Neil Carmichael – presented proposals for the regeneration of vacant sites from Lodgemore Mills to Dudbridge Road in Cainscross in front of Stroud town councillors last night, Monday evening, October 31.

The forum is liasing with land owners to move forward plans for a mix of housing, employment sites and green spaces along the 20 hectare stretch, which could also feature pedestrian and cycle routes and canal-side moorings.

Mr Fong attended Monday’s meeting to seek the council’s endorsement before a public exhibition is staged to showcase the plans.

Members opted to study the proposals in greater detail.
