A care home in Stroud is inviting local people to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

On Friday 28th June, from 10am-5pm, the team at Scarlet House, on Westward Road, will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event to celebrate Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.

This year’s theme celebrates the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

The team at Scarlet House has organised an art-themed party to celebrate the open day, with entertainment, activities and creative fun for all. Visitors can look forward to intergenerational activities, with a special visit from the Coop Day Nursery children. Local students will also be creating mosaic pictures with residents, which will be used to create a mural painting to be revealed on the day. There will also be a tasty barbecue for visitors to enjoy.

Kate Stevens, home manager at Scarlet House, said: “Everyone at Scarlet House is so excited to welcome the local community in for Care Home Open Day 2019. The people of Stroud have always been so welcoming to us, it’s great to be able to give something back.

“This year’s theme of ‘Celebrating Arts in Care’ is a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase all the brilliant activities we get up to on a daily basis here at Scarlet House, such as arts and crafts, so we hope that lots of local people will join us on Friday 28th June.”

As part of a nationwide competition across Care UK homes, Scarlet House will be developing a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which will be showcased at the event.

Scarlet House comes complete with its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café and provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 86 residents. Designed to enable residents to maintain their independence, it incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
