Started in 1991 by Nick Say, Saymor Furnishers began as one store in Abergavenny, soon expanding to include a second in Stroud. Another store in Ross-on-Wye was added in 1997, and with the eventual close of the Abergavenny site in the early 2000s, and the relocation of the Ross store to its larger premises on Cantilupe Road in 2007, the business as it is known today was born.

The first Saymor Furnishers store opened its doors to the people of Abergavenny selling beds and mattresses – still a specialism of Saymor today. The addition of the Ross-on-Wye store marked Saymor’s expansion into bedroom furniture and upholstery, and this continues to be a strong element of the business, including sales of sofas, chairs, and bedroom sets.

The Stroud store has long been an important pillar of the business, and the Say family have even made the town their home, relocating to the Stroud valleys after years of living in nearby Ross-on-Wye. In a recent interview about the company, MD Nick Say described the ethos of Saymor as ‘a family business with competitive prices and excellent customer service’. Indeed, in Stroud and the surrounding areas, Saymor is known as an important part of the local retail community, and it is the loyal connection between customers and business that makes Saymor such a strong and enduring part of Stroud’s economy.

As well as providing great customer service, Saymor have strived to be market experts in mattresses, and have developed their knowledge and connections with great manufacturers over the decades of experience shared by the team. These days, much of the marketing and day-to-day running of the company is in the hands of David and Sally Say, son and daughter-in-law to the MD, Nick, and his wife Lynn. Saymor continues to be a family business, and the importance of building personal relationships between both staff and customers is one of the core building blocks of the Saymor company. Staff in Stroud and Ross work in both sales and delivery capacities, meaning they are able to follow an order through from initial conception to completion, and will be fully informed of all customer needs and preferences, making for a comprehensive and tailored service.

Saymor remains heavily invested in serving Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and the surrounding areas, and would like to extend enormous thanks to all staff and customers that have helped build such a strong and valued business over the last 25 years. Despite Britain being clouded in recession, and now an uncertain economic future, Saymor has continued to thrive thanks to the continual trust and patronage of local people.

The whole Saymor team is delighted to be celebrating this momentous anniversary, and look forward to continuing to be a part of the Stroud community for many more years to come.
