The Severn Mile Open Water Swim – Shrewsbury
Taking place in the heart of Shrewsbury, The Severn Mile is a scenic and challenging open water swim, offering two course options for participants. The main route spans approximately one mile, beginning just west of the Welsh Bridge, heading downstream to the Kingsland Bridge, before turning upstream to finish at the Pengwern Boathouse. For those preferring a shorter swim, an 800-metre downstream-only course is also available, running directly from the start point to the boathouse.
Swimmers will be fully supported with canoe and first aid cover. Registration and safety briefings will take place at the Pengwern Boathouse, after which participants will be escorted to the start slip - a short walk of about a third of a mile. Swimmers will be set off in waves based on their predicted swim times and will be provided with a coloured and numbered swim cap, which must be worn throughout the event.
All finishers will receive a medal and trophies will be awarded to the fastest swimmers in both wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories, by gender. Presentations and refreshments will be held at the Pengwern Boathouse following the event.
Entry is £25 per swimmer, which includes a £15 non-refundable administration fee in the event of cancellation due to river conditions. Full terms can be found in the Conditions of Entry.
