Get ready to feel the river roar! The Severn Hospice Dragon Boat Festival is returning to Shrewsbury in summer 2026 for its annual two-day celebration of teamwork, vibrant community spirit and charity fundraising. Held on the River Severn, this exciting event invites teams and spectators alike to take part in one of the region’s most memorable summer weekends.
The festival brings together colourful 40-foot dragon boats crewed by up to 16 paddlers and a drummer, who work in unison to race head-to-dragon’s-head along a specially marked course on the river. Teams compete for titles including Dragon Boat Festival Champion, Top Fundraiser and even Best Fancy Dress, all while enjoying a festival atmosphere that’s family-friendly and fun for all ages.
This flagship fundraising event plays a vital role in supporting the work of Severn Hospice, which provides specialist care and emotional support for local people living with incurable illnesses and their families. Teams taking part are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship amount, with total fundraising from previous years exceeding £100,000 — money that directly contributes to the hospice’s care services.
