All is peaceful at Squire Grange. Lady Amelia searches for new ideas for her latest mystery novel as Sir Malcolm sleeps off the excesses of another idle day. Family friend Freddy is persuaded to try and think of new ideas.
When to their surprise a murder is actually committed, everybody becomes a suspect, including Smalls the butler and Mabel the maid.
Eventually the police are called but Inspector Sides, Constable Fickey and WPC Nunnall, fail to solve the crime. They have no other choice but to send for Miss Marbles!
