The Best of Oswestry New Year's Honours - Time for You

Each week between now and the New Year, we are focussing on local business men and women who use their skills and expertise to make a difference in their local community.

Rachel Pittaway started Time for You in 2003, providing a whole range of therapies to aid relaxation, provide stress relief and promote healthy mind and body. She is a qualified Reflexologist, an associate member of the Royal School of Medicine and registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council.

Once a month she volunteers at Hope House. Armed with therapeutic oils and relaxing music, she delivers massages to the carers and parents of those children being cared for at Hope House. She sees her role as a provider of a little time out from the difficult situation of living with the loss of a child, or caring for a life-limited child .

Rachel says “ There have been times when I have felt that I am too stressed and busy to give up a day, but always find that it helps me to focus on what is really important in life. Sometimes it is difficult to allow ourselves to stop for a bit and give ourselves a break from the pressures that modern life puts on us, and those that we put on ourselves. The men and women that I meet at Hope House have pressures that I can never imagine, but I know that I can help for a short while, when I am told 'I didn't know I could feel that relaxed'. Last month a lady that I have seen three times now told me that she didn't know how I do what I do, but she was able to switch off from the terrible things that are going round in her mind for the hour that we are together. The warmth of her hug as she said goodbye for another month is the best reward I could wish for.”

Rachel started volunteering her skills at Hope House to see if what she could give was a useful service and is delighted to be asked to continue to her work with Hope House in 2013.
