Rainy day events in Oswestry

The glory that was last week’s sunshine has been blown away by the return of the good old British weather – wind and rain.  So take full advantage of this and go and have tremendous fun doing things in the Old British Stylie like in the days of yore before infotainment was invented.

For a start – there are two rather fabulous things happening at the Memorial Hall this Saturday – Kate Allen’s ever popular joyous Saturday Singing circle and, the first MOB (Made on the Borders) Craft Fair, showcasing the amazing crafty talents in hand made goodies.  And there is cake!

The Willow Gallery are running a series of Family Sewing Workshops, where you can learn all manner of creative crafts, or if you just fancy it, having a  relaxing  morning with your own creative projects in a lovely environment.  And there is cake!

Go and explore Oswestry Library – it’s a fantastic environment for exploration and learning, with computer hubs, history areas and a wonderful  Reading Castle created especially for children, with plenty of sofa space for family reading time.

If you are a fan of eclectic eccentricity – then the Oswestry Museum should keep you amused for a wee while.

Sunday is a more active day – take a trip on a steam train or on a canal boat; or release your inner Murray and have a go at playing Tennis.  For those with the stamina (and Kendal Mint Cake) there is the Men walking for Men 5 kilometer event – to raise monies for charities dealing with prostate and testicular cancer –  and its not restricted to men walkers – all are welcome.

Charmed to my boots by Oswestry and the Welsh Marches. I happily do my best to support the fantastic independent shops and businesses in the area through The Best of Oswestry.
