The Best of Xmas Fayre in Oswestry

Make life a little easier this Christmas, and buy local.  Rather than load the supermarket trolley to overcapacity and then try and fit the shopping and your family into the car, take advantage of the local shops and markets to get exactly what you need.

Meats and fish: Oswestry is blessed with a handful of fine butchers and one extra special fish supplier. All of them take Christmas orders to save the hassle of rushing round at the last minute.

If you haven’t taken advantage of this, don’t despair.

The market is open every day this week, and although the fishmonger is only there on Friday and Saturday, you still have a chance to buy all the food you need.

Don’t forget Country Markets in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, and the indoor and outdoor markets at the Bailey Head for a great selection of vegetables, cakes, jams and foody goodness.

Cheeses, nibblies and post Christmas spread: Radfords Fine Foods at The Deli on the Bailey, and Gillhams Delicatessen on Church Street are both doing wonderful cheese hampers, but they are selling out as fast as they can make ‘em. If you buy your cheeses firm now, and keep them in a cool place, they should be perfect for Christmas. Both deli’s also do a cracking range of pates, pies and savoury biscuits.

Any party plan should include a visit to Stonehouse Brewery, as they have a range of ways you can enjoy their stunning beers – gift packs of bottles, polypins, or for the big bash, steel casks.
