The Project Group in Oswestry supports members of all ages with mental health issues or learning disabilities through creative art work. It encourages individuals to express themselves creatively, flourish within the community and gain the self-belief to move forward in life.

The group has established a focus on using recycled materials, creating everything from bags from tractor inner tubes and watertight vases from waste paper, to striking fashion accessories from zips, bike parts and plastic bags! Funding will help the group reach out to communities across Shropshire and develop their retail range of recycled products to benefit its members.

UPDATE - 19th October 2010

Fantastic - The Project Group won the Future Friendly Award.  All the nominations looked excellent and I wish them well.  This is great news for The Project Group whose excellent work can now go from strength to sustainable strength.
WELL DONE!

"The Project Group has won the Proctor and Gamble 4th Future Friendly Award 2010, for our innovative approach to incorporating recycled materials into our artwork and retail range, and sharing our enthusiasm with the wider community.  We were one of 5 projects shortlisted from over 200 entries.  The public voted for their favourite project on the Future Friendly website.  The announcement was made at an exciting dinner held at Syon House, London, on 14th October.  Three people from each of the 5 shortlisted projects were invited to attend on behalf of their organisation.   Gabi, representing the staff, Ros, for the volunteers, and Lyn, for the members, travelled down to London to the award ceremony.  We were so excited to hear the words "and the winner is The Project Group" and overjoyed to accept the award on behalf of The Project Group."

"A big thank you to Rosemary Collie from Shropshire Community Recycling Ltd, SCRL, who nominated us.  Winning the award was only possible because of the number of people who voted for us.  So thanks go to everyone who rallied friends, family, colleagues and local people to vote online for us."

"This award will bring us a lot of publicity and the prize money of £10,000 will help us to further develop a sustainable future for our members."
