More Bang for your Buck... Celebrate British Sausage week in Oswestry

Hip Hip Hurray!  One of my favourite foods gets its annual recognition as we celebrate the Great British Sausage Week.  Yes, the humble sausage takes centre stage from 3rd to 9th November, as we collectively chuck our weight neurosis in the bin and tuck into our favourite comfort food.  Whether its bangers and creamy mashed potato with onion gravy, a fragrant casserole, or munching a sausage in a bun as you watch the fireworks,  there’s a wealth of varieties out there to suit all ways of cooking.

AND what’s even better is that Oswestry has loads of places to get them, either as the naked sausage, or dressed up as a roll or scotch egg.  Here are some of the places to bag you bangers.

Radfords Butchers on Church Street and at the Deli on the Bailey have Pork and Black Pudding,  savoury Lincolnshire and a cheeky Welsh Dragon.

Hartshorn's on the Bailey and at 25 Beatrice Street have a lovely selection, including Cumberland, Honey and Mustard and Pork and Apple.

Battams at 54 Beatrice Street include in their range, their Farmhouse Porky, Sweet Chili Sausage and yummy Pork and Onion.

If you want something less fandangled, try Roberts for the Traditional Old English (which is fab for breakfast) or simple plain Pork Sausage.

For those who love sausages, but not the faff of cooking them – you can’t go wrong at Gillhams – home of the Coopers Gourmet Sausage Roll, a whole counter full to choose, from the blissful Pork, Nut and Cranberry  to the definitely grown up Pork and Shropshire Blue.

So if you've got a bonfire party this week - make sure those taste buds are satisfied with some great Oswestry bangers.
