Growing for Gold - Gardening events in Oswestry
19th February 2014

Today felt like Spring was truly on its way.  The snowdrops were out in superb abundance, birds were yelling bird love songs to the air and the first lambs were teetering across still muddy fields.

So, it seems the perfect time to round up what we’ve got coming up in gardening terms.

Incredible Edible – a great force for good, have their first 2014 meeting on Monday 24th February at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Roft Street.  As you know, Incredible Edible Oswestry started a year ago and they are looking forward to building on their successes in 2014. You are invited to come along to the first meeting of 2014 to help plan the year ahead and get actively involved in new and existing projects. The meeting is  from 7pm – 8.30pm.  The agenda can be found on the attached PDF.   For more information contact ieoswestry@gmail.com or look them up on Facebook.

Saturday 1st of March is the vital (if you are serious about composting and its benefits) one day composting course at Treflach Farm.  Course Leaders Richard Northridge, Steve Jones and Ian Steele, will guide you through a packed day from first principles – Carbon and Nitrogen, aerobic and anaerobic composting, domestic, farm and commercial systems, nutrient retention and cycling and heat recovery and use.  The course is £80.00, including refreshments, lunch and course notes.

On Friday 3rd of March, at the Cambrian Railways Orchard Project, Master Fruitswoodsman and organic orchardist Tom Adams will be running a masterclass on planting and caring for fruit trees.  Tom really knows his stuff, and will be showing planting and pruning techniques, how to choose the best root stock and mother plant, and different growing techniques – such as espalier, fan and stepover.  The course runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm and costs £45.00 including a soup and bread lunch and refreshments.  Places are limited, so please don’t delay, book as soon as possible.  Details on the Poster below.
