Gillhams of Oswestry's Gourmet Sausage Rolls

Ivan at Gillhams Deli in Oswestry is always coming up with fabulous tasting food using local ingredients and he's done it again!

Using local sausage meat and the best ingredients he could find, Ivan set about spicing up the traditional sausage roll to create something incredibly moreish.  At last year's Oswestry Food & Drink Festival, BBC Radio Shropshire interviewed one visitor who claimed it was, "The best sausage roll I have ever tasted!"

Ivan's first batch never made it to the customers, the staff ate the lot :) and said they would sell well at Gillhams so they made more and they did sell well!

After a few weeks, they added the Caramelized Onion & Shropshire Blue sausage roll - again a big hit with the staff first, then with the customers.

Over the last few months they have added flavours to their range and now have 8 in total:

  • Cranberry and pinenut
  • Caramelised onion and Shropshire blue
  • Harissa {Garlic and Chilli}
  • Pork leek and sage
  • Black pudding and apple
  • The Welsh one Lava bread and welsh grainy mustard
  • The Veggie one with butter beans, chickpeas with mixed seeds
  • The Veggie blue cheese bomb with pumpkin seeds

All these have been a big hit and are now selling out regularly in Gillhams and their sister shop, Baileys in Llangollen.

CHESTER RACE COURSE

After a customer bought some a few weeks ago and liked them so much he asked for samples to take to Chester Race Course!

Two weeks later, Ivan found himself at Chester Race Course in their beautiful restaurant with samples of his gourmet sausage rolls in front of three Top Chefs.

Ivan had a pretty big smile on his face when they said how fantastic they were and how different they were to a normal sausage roll.

WHERE CAN YOU TRY ONE?

Just pop down to Gillham's on Church Street and choose from the 8 different flavours.  Hopefully, Ivan will be showcasing them again at the upcoming Oswestry Food Festival.  And knowing him, he'll have another storming new recipe on show.
