Celebrating Nellie's Patch Palm Oil Free Soap
10th October 2009

The other day I spoke with Julie at Nellie's Patch and was really impressed by the nature of their product: a palm-oil free handmade soap made with the addition of locally grown herbs and flowers in Kinnerley.  These are quite beautiful soaps and their endeavour is to be applauded!

There are so many energetic and intelligent businesses in and around Oswestry with new ones starting up all the time.  Business doesn't stand still.

Julie has been kind enough to share a little background info on Nellie's Patch - I'll hand you over:-

"Nellie’s Patch, is named  after our pet cat Nellie.

We grow our herbs and flowers, and these are incorporated into our the handmade  soap. We do not buy in soap, and repackage it, we make it ourselves !

Our soaps are as natural as possible, with essential oils, herbs or flowers. No artificial ingredients are added, so no sodium lauryl sulphate.    We DO NOT use palm oil. Because we are concerned about the detrimental impact on the environment that a large percentage of palm oil production creates.  The effects on wildlife particularly the orang-utan  are a big worry to us.   Since we launched I have been surprised how a large number of people do not  know about the implications of rainforest destruction, and that it is in a large part, the result of palm oil production.

Of course being an animal lover none of our ingredients are not tested on animals. Nellie’s Patch soaps are made using the traditional cold process, and are left to mature , then packed by hand .  We use as much recycled and biodegradable packaging as possible.  Our soaps are all vegetarian and vegan.

Our soaps are available as 100g soaps, 30g guest soaps,(suitable for hotels, B&B’s, and spas) and wedding favours."

Thank you Julie - with our best wishes for the success of Nellie's Patch - from thebestofOswestry!
