After the summer sunshine of last week, ol’ Shakespeare’s Rough Winds are certainly shaking the darling buds of May round here.  It looks like a posse of weddings have taken place, with the cherry tree and hawthorn blossom scattered in confetti mounds.

However, rain (minus wind please) is good for gardens and while the plants thrive, we can  be cozily indoors at any number of fine events this coming fortnight.

Booka Bookshop have, as part of their author series,  two Jameses.  On May 13th, James Hannah will be talking about his striking debut novel ‘The A to Z of You and Me’ a fascinating journey through the maze of a young man’s recollections of his life.

On 18th May, at Trinity Church, James Runcie, author of the extremely well written and popular Grantchester Mysteries discusses his latest book ‘The Forgiveness of Sins’ featuring his clergyman detective, Sidney Chambers.

KinoKulture are definitely keen to Kulture us up – with a raft of drama from stage and screen –

‘Still Alice’ – with Julia Moore, is a painful and riveting exploration of how Alzheimer’s affects an intelligent academic and the impact on her family.

NT Live this month is ‘Man and Superman’ a real epic masterpiece from George Bernard Shaw with Ralph Feinnes as Jack Tanner – rich, single, intelligent and being chased by an indomitable young lady who wants him for a husband.

Two musical events – 7th May is  the penultimate in the Oswestry School Recital Series with the European Union Chamber Orchestra  and our own Chris Symons at the piano with a programme  of Mozart, Respighi, Delius and Haydn.

Tuesday 12th May sees the the first concert in this year’s Whittington International Chamber Music Festival celebrating the sheer genius of Mendlessohn and his music.

So, the weather outside might be frightful, but these events are certainly delightful!.
