If you have young children and are looking for some Halloween fun without scaring them too much there’s plenty on offer.

Head for the delightful narrow-gauge Bure Valley Railway for a half term week of Halloween  fun with a children’s competition spotting spooky items along the journey.

Visit the Boggles at BeWILDerwood over half term for bewitching fun making masks and lanterns, then join their magical lantern parade around the park at the end of each day. Or follow a pumpkin quiz trail around Salhouse Broad – prizes for those who find all the clues and there’s autumnal crafts and Halloween games too.

Ghostly fun and games, pumpkin carving and Halloween-themed arts and crafts will be on offer at Whitlingham Country Park and at Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden you can make scary bats and lanterns.

The Norwich Playhouse is staging Vampirates on 29th October. Based on the award-winning novels by Justin Somper Vampirates is the story of twins Grace and Connor separated from their lighthouse home by a violent storm. Both find themselves on two different mysterious ships,  desperate to try to get back to each other.

Fairhaven is also the setting for a superb Halloween spooky trail. As you wander through the torch-lit woodland trail you can never quite be sure what’s going to jump out at you next! And as well as ghosts, ghouls and witches galore there’s plenty of Halloween-themed entertainment throughout the gardens with live music and fire breathers. A great evening for older children and adults alike.

If you’re feeling really brave and are not of a nervous disposition you could join the scariest of all the trails with Norwich Ghost Walks as they meet at a ‘themed’ graveyard beside Cow Tower on the River Yare. Get in the SPIRIT of things and come dressed as a ghost or ghoul and for anyone still able to eat after having their nerves shredded there’s a barbeque on offer at the Adam & Eve.

Leaving things to your own imagination can create the creepiest scenarios of all. If you feel like testing this out you could join TheCanoeMan for a Halloween evening canoe paddle through the deathly dark waters of the River Wensum.

And for those Halloween Costumes? Try In2Partyz in Hall Road - they are offering 20% off costume hire when you hire two or more costumes.
