Things to do with the kids in the holidays

I volunteered the other week to help take my son’s class from their junior school to the High School for the morning for some science lessons. Got everything wrong and hindered rather than helped in the class but it was great to see what goes on and for the younger kids to get a taster of High School so it won’t be so scary when they go there in a year’s time.

We’re very lucky where we live in Norfolk to have brilliant schools on our doorstep. But what do you do with the kids during the summer holidays?

If you are a working parent, Wymondham Leisure Centre is offering full day care, with a range of activities from swimming to football, arts and craft to cooking. Our son loves it and asks to go there for the day even though one of us can be at home.

Other leisure centres around South Norfolk have a range of activities going on but don’t provide the whole day cover that Wymondham Leisure Centre do. Here are some details of school holiday activities.

One of our clients is holding a whole day of activities where your children can learn and have fun. Based on the popular subject of csi, Right Angle Events hold days where your kids can learn about ballistics, fingerprinting, blood splattering analysis (not real blood) and a variety of other fascinating subjects. Kids love it. They also provide childcare at each end of the day to cater for working parents.

Other ideas include activities at the Forum, Dragon Hall, the Puppet Theatre, (including a week long summer school) and Norwich Council are holding a series of outdoor events at various parks in Norwich. Children need to be accompanied at the council run events.

There is always the cinema, of course, and Vue cinema in Norwich are holding a spy competition – find the hidden Guinea pigs in the Mall.

There are of course, loads of attractions around Norfolk for those wanting to look further afield, such as Bewilderwood, Banham Zoo, Pensthorpe, to name but  a few.

You can see a list of the latest children’s holiday events and activities in Norwich here.

If you know of any other events in the holidays please feel free to add a comment to this blog.
