It’s that perfect time of year to head out with the family and have fun! Whether you want to stay in Norwich or head further out into Norfolk, we've got plenty of ideas to keep you busy.

There’s always plenty to do for kids in Norwich, from learning about Boudica and the Romans at the Castle Museum to creating a pirate or fairy tale-themed puppet at Norwich Puppet Theatre.

You could head to Dragon Hall and take advantage of their special offer for families called Family Fun for a Fiver. Dates are August 7, 14, 21 and 28. The days feature workshops and don’t forget they have two gorilla sculptures.

You could try and hunt down Norwich’s newest residents and follow the GoGoGorillas trail. As well as a sense of achievement at having found them all, you’ll get the chance to discover parts of the city you may not know.

The Norfolk Showground is hosting the Norwich Charity Motor Show & Family Fun Event over the weekend of 10 and 11 August. There will be lots to see including a chance to have your photo taken with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, as well as lots of other cars, rides and even Daleks!

There are also plenty or special days and events taking place a bit further afield.

Cromer Carnival, now in its 44th year, will see a packed programme of over 120 events and activities land in Cromer from August 17 to 23, and will be preceded by Children’s Weeks which take place from August 5 to 9 and August 12 to 16.

The Sheringham Carnival continues throughout August with lots to enjoy including a raft race, lantern making, a treasure trail and sandcastle competition.

The Beccles Carnival & Family Fun Weekend takes place on the 17 and 18 August and includes a parade, fancy dress, games and music.

Great Yarmouth is making the most of the clear skies with a fantastic Summer Firework Display every Wednesday from 7 August. As well as illuminating the skies there will be music and entertainment.

Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse is a beautiful setting and if you go there on 10 August for the Festival on the Farm you may meet Pirates, Trolls, or a Fairy Queen. You can even say hello to the Gruffalo.

If you're looking for a real adventure then BeWILDerwood in Hoveton could be the place for you. Following last year's success, Curious Crocklebog Capers will be returning for the whole summer where you can join the Boggle and Twiggles for a mysterious puppet parade!

If your kids are fans of creepy crawlies then Brilliantly Barmy Bugs at Banham Zoo will keep them entertained for hours. Running all summer, it's their chance to learn a bit more about insects and get up close to some exotic creature.

As you can see, there's plenty to keep everybody entertained for hours, and this is just a taster! Keep coming back to thebestofnorwich website throughout August for more days out ideas and events.

Plus if you're organising a family event then make sure you add it to our events page.
