Norwich has been shortlisted to be the world’s first ever Walt Disney World “twin town” thanks to James Royal.
James, aged 29, was one of over 500 people from across the UK who nominated their home towns to become Walt Disney World’s official twin town. His entry is now one of the 25 shortlisted to win the coveted title.
If successful, Norwich will be announced as having official “Walt Disney World Twinned Town” status and arrangements will be made to hold a magical Disney party in January to celebrate the twinning. Plus, James will jet off to Walt Disney World in Florida with his family (max 4 people) for the official twinning ceremony presided over by the mayor of Main Street, U.S.A., in the fairy tale Magic Kingdom.
James' entry was selected because it demonstrates effectively the elements of Norwich which are "twinned" to elements in the Walt Disney World Park. James' entry can be seen here
As part of his entry James said: “I believe Norwich should be twinned with Walt Disney World as it has strong links to all five of the main criteria Walt Disney used when he first started planning Walt Disney World."
The competition in Norfolk was fierce, with the county submitting entries from Great Yarmouth to Colby, Fakenham to Norwich, all putting forward poems or pictures and even videos showcasing why their towns deserve to win the title.
The shortlist will now go before a team of judges, including TV star Angellica Bell, Vice President Creative Inc, Walt Disney World, Duncan Wardle, Vice President and managing director of Disney Destinations International UK, Hugh Wood, and one of the famous Walt Disney Imagineers, Patrick Brennan, to select the winning town. The announcement will be made on 7 December.
