Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2013 - Spiegeltent

This year I finally had my first ever visits to The Spiegeltent.  I know, I know, where have I been! Well, I can tell you where I will be next year.  I loved this little jewel which appears in the heart of the city for too short a time each year.

My first visit was to see Beyond by Circa.  I could describe the show as circus skills and acrobatics.  That would be a terrible disservice.  This breathtaking show is by the same group who have performed ‘How Like An Angel’ in Norwich Cathedral over the past couple of years.  The performers appear adorned with rabbit and other animal heads, they balanced, swung, hung, suspended, lifted with poise and ease.  It was magical, fascinating and the power and skill just astonishing.  If you ever have a chance to see this show, all I can say is please please go.  You will not be disappointed.

My second visit came the following evening with the musical extravaganza of Frisky and Mannish.  These two amazing singers cleverly mix together well-known songs, add new lyrics, fusing them to create a new versions of the songs.  It was the funniest show I have seen in ages, excitingly fresh and new with perfect comic timing.  A few audience members got dragged onto the stage, the rest of us trying to guess the mix of songs.  When they return to Norwich, I will be there again.  Brilliant stuff.

If you haven’t been to the Spiegeltent before, I highly recommend a visit.  This colourful Art Nouveau gem which materialises in Chapelfield Gardens once a year whisks you away from the city centre of Norwich to a world of music, comedy, dance and the unusual. You won’t want to leave and will wonder why you’ve never been before.
