Fanny: A New Musichall is an exciting new play that tells the story of a young actress rehearsing for her Drury Lane debut during the Victorian period. As she works on her songs with Arthur, her long-suffering pianist, it becomes apparent that things are not all as they seem.

Set against the backdrop of the infamous Contagious Diseases Act of the 1860’s, Fanny tells the funny and tragic story of her friend Elsie while using various forms of Music Hall to spin her tale. She sings and she dances; she tells jokes, she recites poems and she wears a lot of different clothes. She might even dress her audience up. The show also consists of classic Music Hall scores including favourites such as Beside the Seaside, Waiting at the Church and All the Nice Girls Love a Sailor.

The play has strong local links, with Lichfield based actress Lizzie Wofford performing the lead role of Fanny. Lizzie makes a welcome return to the Lichfield Garrick having previously starred in productions by the Lichfield Garrick Youth Theatre and the Garrick Rep. Fanny: A New Musichall has been written by local playwright Carolyn Scott-Jeffs (Doctors, Radio 4) and has been produced by Lichfield actor/producer Tom Roberts in conjunction with London Theatre Workshop.

Fanny: A New Musichall runs at the Lichfield Garrick on Thursday 29thand Friday 30thJune at 7.45pm. Tickets are £12, £10 (students) and can be bought by calling the Box Office on 01543 412121.
