“Come and walk with me in the Brecon Beacons” suggested our Cardiff based son Richard.  So off we set on Saturday morning, a beautiful sunny day, to South Wales.  First change of plan so that Richard could purchase new shoes for a wedding where he is best man and also meet up with his friends at the Yacht Club.  We walked from his house in Cathays through Bute Park and alongside the River Taff to Cardiff Bay.  Quick chat and a drink with friends before setting off all the way round the bay over the Barrage and into Penarth.  We decided not to wear walking boots as we’d be walking on tarmac most of the way.  Debbie, in trainers, was fine, if a little hot, but that was helped by an ice cream stop, first one of this year!  David, however, was in deck shoes, not a good idea for a walk of approximately 10 miles.  He had very sore feet!  We had a quick sail to Mermaid Quay with Richard and 6 of his friends, pizzas were purchased to eat on board, before motoring back to Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.

The following day we set off towards the Gower, intending to do a 7 mile circular walk from Caswell Bay.  We were sat at traffic lights near to Swansea University and there was a loud bang from the left hand side of the car!  We crawled across the junction to take refuge in a bus stop to find that it wasn’t the tyre that had gone but the front left suspension spring.  We came back to Lichfield, via Cardiff to collect our bags, on a breakdown truck.  As I (Debbie) have only just managed to sit in a car for long distances recently, following my back operation, it was a bumpy journey with a coat stuffed behind my back for lumbar support!

Determined to get at least a small walk, we did about 3 miles across the fields to Leamonsley and through Beacon Park, surveying all the improvements that have been made there, before dinner.
