As Lichfield and Burntwood residents are warned to take precautions before they go on holiday to deter burglars, we offer some measures to help:

Ask a neighbour to push your letters through your letterbox
Cancel your milk and newspapers
Install a timer to come on at different times during the day
Ensure you lock all windows and doors – test locks from the outside to check their durability
Check your garage and sheds are locked
Store away valuables away from the windows and doors where they can’t be seen
Leave spare keys with someone you trust to check on your home, opening and closing curtains and keeping an eye out
Even when you’re home don’t leave spare keys under door mats etc.
Park cars in a locked garage if possible
Install a burglar alarm
Don’t leave bricks, tools or objects lying around that could be used to force entry

Crack down on burglary, take these preventative measures and have a great holiday.
