Time to get planting with G-Scapes

January sees the start of the new gardening year, and there are lots of things to do, through this month.

Time to plan for the season ahead, prepare the ground for planting, sow seeds, replant your pots and look forward to the long warm summer days ahead (which we are sure will happen!)

Start to sow seeds

The new range of Mr Fothergills Seeds are now in stock - we have doubled the selection for 2012, and now have a wide choice in both flower and vegetable seeds.

We now boast 10 different varieties of Sweet Pea, a large range of Nasturtium, and we’ve also taken delivery of a ‘Vegetable Explorer’ collection - this showcases many unusual vegetable varieties.

So try something different in 2012 - for starters, how about White or Yellow Carrots, the ‘Golden Shrimp’ Climbing Bean, Blue Radish.

 Onions and Potatoes

Also new for 2012 is the Kelsae Onion - First introduced in the 1950’s, this variety is still one of the most popular exhibition onions, achieving record weights and unusually for show onions, it also has exceptional flavour. Sow now for harvesting in August.

Due in later this month is our range of Seed Potatoes. We will have popular types such  as Rocket, Charlotte and King Edward, as well as smaller packs of the Pink Fir Apple potato, and even an organic variety too! Prices from £1.99 a pack (10 tubers)

Revamp your pots and tubs

After Christmas can be regarded as a dull time in the garden, but it doesn’t have to be like that! We now have Spring Pansies, Primroses, Wallflowers and Polyanthus in stock  and coming into flower.  Add a dash of colour by planting these in gaps in your pots and don’t forget to use Spring Flowering Bulbs for more long term colour in your borders. If you didn’t plant any bulbs in the autumn - fear not as we have a large range of ready potted bulbs in stock. Simply plant these (in their pots) into gaps in your pots & tubs - then after flowering, transfer to your borders where the display will grow every year.
