Councillor Barry Diggle, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said: “Despite the snow and ice, Lichfield District has been a hive of activity in the run up to the holidays. Lichfield Christmas Festival weekend was a fantastic way to start the festive season. I’ve had the pleasure of attending lots of wonderful carol concerts across the district, which always get me in the festive spirit.

“Every year, I am impressed with the amount of effort everyone puts into Christmas community activities and events. Earlier this month, the Burntwood Christmas Lantern Parade lit up the town and was a huge achievement for the organisers and everyone who took part. I know the hundreds of people who came along were impressed with the inventive lanterns and had a fantastic time celebrating their community.

“The Christmas meal in Fazeley was another such venture, when more than 70 older people were treated to a free Christmas lunch, thanks to the hard work of lots of local volunteers.

“Events like these make me feel very proud to represent Lichfield District, and I would like to thank everyone for giving up their time to help make Christmas happy for their community.

“The Lichfield Garrick has surpassed itself with a fantastic Christmas production of Peter Pan, which has received glowing reviews and kept many young people, and not so young people, entertained and transported to a magical world of fairies, pirates and ticking crocodiles.

“And with that, I hope everyone has a magical time this Christmas. I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
