Have fun on bonfire night, but keep you and your family safe by following these important rules:


Sparklers

  • Never give sparklers to children under 5 years
  • Never let children light sparklers
  • Always wear gloves when handling sparklers
  • Keep sparklers away from faces
  • When your sparkler is finished, place it in water or sand

 

Fireworks

  • Read the instructions before lighting
  • Only use one firework at a time, keeping others in closed box
  • Light fireworks at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back
  • Aim rockets away from spectators
  • Never go near lit fireworks
  • Don’t let children near fireworks
  • Keep naked flames away from fireworks

 

Bonfires

  • Ensure bonfires are at least 18m away from houses, trees and fences
  • Don’t use petrol or paraffin to light your bonfire
  • Before lighting a bonfire check animals and children are well away
  • Make certain the fire is out before leaving
  • Keep a bucket of water handy in case the fire gets out of control, call the fire brigade if this happens.
